1. Loving a dog doesn’t equal understanding or create trustworthy companions, no more than loving your partner means you have a trustworthy relationship. You have to work at it.

2. Every Time We Create A Blanket Rule, We Eliminate Options.  

3. Progressive shelters and rescues look to solve the problem, not simply euthanize it away.

4. Start changing our vocabulary from “Is the dog adoptable or un-adoptable” to “Is the dog home-able or un-shelterable”?

5. Dog behavior must be interpreted in the context of the situation. 

6. Remember your dog isn’t giving you a hard time – he’s having a hard time.

7. Label the behavior, not the dog.

8. Behavioral issues must be treated as responsibly as medical issues.

9. If you want to rehome or euthanize your dog for naughty behavior after choosing not to train him, you alone are to blame. Your dog is not at fault.
